I
had considered just using the dark Peruvian walnut for
the rub rail, but I wanted to continue the deck glass
beyond the edge of the stripping to ensure no moisture
ingress at the deck edge in the future. I considered
rounding off the deck edge, glassing down onto the
hull, and installing the rub rail a couple of cm down
from the deck line but, mocking it up, I didn’t like
the look of it. Instead I opted to run a feature strip
of yellow cedar along the gunwale… the deck glass will
run out onto this strip, be trimmed off, and the final
walnut rub rail glued on. This solved my moisture
concern, and the attractiveness issue.
